Exercise 2.0 - Rapid Sketches

This exercise consisted of setting up a scene of easily movable objects and sketch them with limited time. I started the first couple of sketches by counting 3 minutes to complete them followed by 2 minutes for another couple of sketches and finished with 1 minute for the final set of sketches.
I order for the subject not to be too repetitive, I was lucky enough to catch my partner doing some food prep so I thought what a lovely opportunity would be to capture a moving subject (i.e. hands chopping ingredients).
For this task, I've chosen to go digital, but the modus operandi remains the same as traditional sketching with the difference you're using a tablet instead of paper. I used an iPad pro 12.9'' and Procreate as the drawing software. I picked a customised brush pen that's has great variation in its thickness as you press it more or less into your paper (or tablet).

I'd like to add, due to current (global) circumstances, I find myself in lockdown. As a consequence of that, the choice of subject might become limited.

This was how I laid out my table in order to do the rapid sketches.
Used the iPad Procreate as my tool and chose a brush pen as my medium .
I chose this brush because it's quite similar to a traditional brush pen with regards to it's variety of thickness as you press the brush on the paper.

These last two one-minute-sketches, I changed the subject as an opportunity arose whilst doing the initial sketches.
It was the only suitable chance to capture a moving subject.

Final thoughts:

I found this exercise to be a great warm-up for a more refined drawing as it helps you to loosen up and expand your expressiveness and energy into your sketches.
It is pretty much a gesture drawing exercise which "forces" you , due to time constraints, to capture only what's essential to what you want to express in your sketch.
Another benefit of this exercise is that it is a good exercise to expand your visual library due to the time limits and consequent amount of sketches you can make in a short period of time.
