Research Task 1.0 Emma’s Sketchbook

Emma presents a concept of sketchbook use which is new and insightful to me.
The book which she presented during the video shows that all the work done within it was based around a theme of intersect expressed on trees.
In order to achieve her final result, she gathered a series of photographs, words, printmaking, notes and extracts from courses and books which were related to her topic and made experiments with different resources hoping to find something she was happy with (Lots of trial and error during this process).

Also I noticed the amount of thumbnail sketches that she drew in order to find successful compositions based on the references she had.
It shows that there is a lot of trial and error involved during the process of picture making, and that is, essentially what I believe the sketchbook to be useful for. To be an extension of your creative brain.

Looking at her method of using a sketchbook I gained a new perspective to use it to its full potential.
Not being afraid to make mistakes and stretch out of your comfort zone by trying different materials/ techniques.
I also liked the way she collected her references and managed to stick it in her sketchbook, I find this method more convenient and efficient rather than having a bunch of loose prints or having to scroll through your laptop looking for that image you so much needed. It just makes the picture making process easier in my opinion.

In conclusion, there are some interesting aspects which I will try to add to my sketchbook filling process.
